Vitamin C flush (ascorbate calibration)
A vitamin C flush shows how much vitamin C your body can use right now. Do it with your practitioner’s guidance, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, on a day you can stay home.
- Pick your starting amount. Generally healthy: 3/4 scoop (1.5 g vitamin C). Moderately healthy: 1 1/2 scoops (3 g). Not feeling well: 3 scoops (6 g).
- Stir it into 1 to 2 oz of room-temperature water or diluted juice. Repeat every 15 minutes and keep a running total. Drink plenty of water.
- No gurgling or rumbling after 4 doses? Double your amount and keep going every 15 minutes.
- Keep going until you have a watery, enema-like flush. Loose stool is NOT the endpoint.
- Add up your total. Your daily amount is up to 75% of it, split into 2 to 4 doses. Example: 20 g total means up to 15 g a day.
- Repeat as your practitioner recommends (weekly is common while you dial in). A flush total of 4 g or less is considered a healthy result.
Before you flush: talk to your practitioner first if you have a history of kidney stones or kidney disease, G6PD deficiency, iron overload (hemochromatosis), IBS or IBD, or you’re pregnant. Don’t stop high amounts suddenly; taper down over several days.
